Breastfeeding: A National Health Priority

Although we often think of breastfeeding as a one-on-one experience, breastfeeding has gained attention as a public health imperative. The United States ranks approximately 35th in infant mortality, and breastfeeding has been identified as a central means for improving that statistic. This show will help listeners to recognize some major national and international health initiatives about breastfeeding that are important for mothers, infants, and societies. Dr. Miriam Labbok, Professor of the Practice of Public Health and Director of the Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute (CGBI) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will be our guest.
