Join Marie and special guest Carrie Andrews, Minority Leader of the Monroe County (NY) Legislature for a discussion of breastfeeding as a public health initiative in need of employee support. Rep. Andrews recently filed legislation to establish a county policy that most buildings “owned, leased or operated by the county to designate a room where mothers can breastfeed or pump breast milk” that is available to both employees and visitors and has a door with a lock on the inside, a chair, a flat surface such as a table, disinfectant wipes, and an electrical outlet. Such a proposal goes above and beyond what’s required under state law but Andrews believes that setting aside a lactation room is achievable in most situations, and desirable in all cases, due to the public health benefits for mothers and children.
